How to Prepare Paint-by-Numbers Artwork for Digital Downloads
6 min read
Paint Craft lets you export your paint-by-numbers designs in several formats, each suited to different uses. If you want to sell your creations as digital downloads, choosing the right format and preparing your files properly is essential.
Export Formats Available
Paint Craft offers three export formats:
- SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) — Vector format that scales to any size without losing quality. Ideal for print products.
- PDF — Print-ready vector format with optional colour guide. Best for customers who will print and paint.
- PNG — High-resolution raster image. Good for digital previews and social media but does not scale like vectors.
Preparing Files for Sale
When creating digital downloads, consider what your customer needs:
- Include the numbered canvas — This is the core product. Export the canvas view with numbers visible.
- Include a colour guide — The PDF export includes a colour key. For SVG downloads, consider providing a separate colour reference.
- Consider multiple sizes — SVG and PDF scale naturally, but you might want to export PNG versions at specific resolutions (e.g. A4, Letter) for customers who prefer raster files.
- Name files clearly — Use descriptive filenames like "sunset-landscape-paint-by-numbers-A4.pdf" rather than generic names.
What Paint Craft Creates vs. What You Add
Paint Craft handles the conversion from photo to numbered canvas and the export. To create a sellable product, you might want to:
- Bundle multiple formats (PDF + PNG) in a single download
- Add instructions for how to use the paint-by-numbers template
- Include paint colour recommendations matched to common brands
- Create a preview image showing the finished result alongside the numbered canvas
File Quality Tips
Higher colour counts and more complex images produce more detailed canvases. Choose Easy (10–50 colours) for simpler canvases, or purchase Masterpiece (up to 255 colours) for a high-detail digital package. Only sell artwork when you hold the necessary rights to the source image.
Always test-print your exports before listing them for sale to verify colours, line clarity, and number readability at the intended print size.
